The TEN food carts at Mississippi Marketplace (featured on Yelp.com March 18,2010) and the German beer pub Prost! are located on the SW corner of N. Mississippi and Skidmore, 4233 N. Mississippi. We are two blocks off I-5 at exit 303. There is great access from public transportation (#4 bus, Interstate Max line at Prescott), plenty of bike corral and on-site parking, and plenty of free car parking along Skidmore (including right on the overpass of I-5). We are built on a eco-lot (permeable asphalt) with native plant landscaping. You can follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/missmarketplace. We are closed on Mondays. To find out the hours of each food cart, check their web sites.

Yesterday we signed up Garden State, another Top Ten cart. They will be opening in early January. Chef Kevin Sandri has a menu that includes a meatball hero that may be the best this side of Sicily. This is a serious carnivore alert.

The Sugar Cube has opened it’s doors and is producing some serious sweetness. Chef Kir Jensen has created some terrific desserts. Read about her, foods carts in Portland and Mississippi Marketplace in an article in this week’s Portland Mercury.

The building BEFORE renovation. Built in 1894, it had been boarded up for many years.

Let’s get it started!!!

Mississippi Marketplace is getting ready to open.  We just passed the final City inspection and will get power on Tuesday September 8th.  The vacant lot has been  graded, graveled and coated with pervious (as in percolate) asphalt for the most environmentally- friendly and storm water safe location possible for food and vendor carts. Check out the before, during and after photos in our photo album on the right hand side of the web site. We  landscaped with native plants like Oregon Grape, Colrado Blue Spruce and many interesting cultivars of Japanese Maples.  Prost! is continuing to build out the interior of the renovated church building and will be opening in Fall.  We are still accepting applications for artisan/vendor booths (8 x8 foot size and 10 x 10 foot size) – go to applications on this web site.  See you soon and all the best!

Announcing Mississippi Marketplace

2009 June 17
by Roger

Welcome to Mississippi Marketplace – where our goal is to create a vibrant, affordable & high quality gathering place for local food and artisan craft vendors helping to sustain local markets.

We are now accepting applications!  Please read our Guidelines, and then read our inquiry information.

Approximately ten  sites for exceptional food/vendor carts (size approximately 8 ft. x 16 ft.)  and more than 20 sites for artisan, craft, and farmer’s booths are available for rent in this prime location.   Booths are one of two sizes, 8 ft. x 8 ft. and 10ft. x 10 ft. and rented by the day, weekend or month.  MISSISSIPPI MARKEPLACE is permitted for a landscaped, pervious paved lot with full electricity and water hook- ups for food/vendor carts. Each space will be provided extra space for seating.

The site, at the intersection of four communities,  has great access from public transportation and is close to many destination shops (Pin Me, Flutter, Black Wagon, Pastaworks, Sunlan Lighting) , music venues (Mississippi Studios, Mississippi Pizza) , coffee shops (The Fresh Pot, Albina Press) and restaurants (Monsoon Thai, Lovely Hula Hands, Equinox, Mississippi Delta, Gravy, Mississippi Station, Por Que No, Lorenzo’s).  It is on the #4 Bus line, just two blocks off Interstate 5 (exit 303), and three blocks from the Interstate Max line stop at Prescott.

The site will be landscaped with native bushes and trees, and there will be plenty of bike parking. Vendors will be asked to use recyclable serving containers, utilize local food sources where possible, recycle trash and compost or donate left-over food to Food Bank programs. Year ’round one year lease preferred for food carts.

We will have 3 different type of sites available for rent :

  1. Food Cart Sites (with electricity and water hook-ups) approximately 8 X 16  feet (plus area for seating) – renting for $495 a month.
  2. 8 x 8 ft booth spaces (you provide the tent) and set up and take down each day. – $20/day, monthly rates available.
  3. 10 x 10 ft booth spaces (you provide the tent) and set up and take down each day. – $25/day, monthly rates available.
